The Altar 00 is a 3D-printed altar central to Vietnamese
spirituality, reimagined in the form of a surrealist creature.
While the traditional altar is used for worshipping the deceased, ancestors, historical figures, or deities, this Altar commemorates the departure of my old self, featuring a framed, quasi-datamoshed video of my extravagant makeup and costume when I was a (delusional) subcultural icon in NYC. The animated spirit glitches, suggesting something erroneous and feared by the system, but positioned in the context of Vietnamese diasporic experience.
The Altar 00 was assembled from 3D printed and laser cut parts executed at The Edge (State Library of Queensland).
