Gaze into this portal as you transform into creatures on Planet Jent. Spinning creatures images obscure the audiences faces but not entirely, to make them wonder about their identities that are attached to their face (racial, gender, privilege, etc) and make them question what does it mean to be a “Jentian”. Jentians and ornaments are made in collaboration/ inspired by AI tools (Midjourney, StyleGAN) to build a new world.
The layout for the installation is inspired by Vietnamese pagodas and traditional decorative art, stacking layers upon layers of portals. The colour explosion and ornamental intricacy mimic the my all-time favorite landmark, Khai Dinh Tomb in Hue, Vietnam. A portal/ altar/ monument of Jent was built convincingly grand and overwhelming to evoke the otherworldliness, artificiality and approaching Vietnamese futurism.
