Funct10n Magazine is a magazine on generative art. The magazine is consisted of academic journals, and essays on the issue of art and technology, digital art, generative art, NFTs, machine learning, etc, in relation to graphic design and interaction design, and a section of featured artists and events. This magazine aims to foster a robust art & tech community, inspiring and celebrating artists/designers/educators in the field while bridging the tech and and the art world. The audience for this magazine are anyone who are interested in generative art in general or an expert in the field, with an emphasis on being inclusive for the LGBTQIA+ community, women, BIPOCs which are often underrepresented in the tech world.

Volumn 00 features 4 journals and the works of media artist Jent Do. I use generative art pieces that I made in the past 2 years, as well as generating new graphics made with creative coding to embrace the possibilities of generative art. In the section on NFT and climate change, I use the cube text layouts which is inspired by the blockchain symbol. In the essay on AI Art, I included a custom typeface derived from a StyleGAN2 model. Most of the text layouts have white highlights on a black background inspired by the act of highlighting text on the computer.
“Funtion" is a common syntax in Javascript that is used in creative coding. I replaced the “io” with “10” to highlight the computational nature of generative art. I created the magazine title from 2 typefaces, a pixelation typeface and an abstract geometric typeface inspired by science fiction. This reflects the innovative, experimental, and futuristic quality of the magazine.
